PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE:
Celaya Tequila honors 150-year-old Family Legacy

Small-Batch Tequila Ferments 5x as Long Resulting in Smooth Layered Flavor

LOS ANGELES May 17, 2022 – Inspired by their abuela’s tales of growing up in her small native town of Sonora, Mexico, and a long-ago generational story of a special family tequila, two Southern California brothers – Matt and Ryan Kalil – are sharing a family legend by introducing Celaya Tequila to discerning aficionados in California and beyond.

Launching at retail this month, Celaya Tequila draws its inspiration from family patriarch Jose Celaya dating back to the late 1800’s. Family lore has it that Jose crafted his own small-batch tequila for friends and family. Wildly popular with locals and visitors to the region, these tequila tales were passed down to future generations, including Matt and Ryan’s grandmother Frecia Celaya, who was Jose’s granddaughter.

The Kalils are former NFL all-pros with bonds of brotherhood extending far beyond the football field. Deploying the same patience and commitment to detail that defined their combined 20 years on the gridiron, the California natives are excited to bring Celaya Tequila to market. “We owe it all to our abuela,” says Matt. “She would always tell us stories about Jose and how he made his own tequila, and over time he’s become a legendary figure in our family. Ryan and I grew up hearing these stories and seeing how tequila as an experience was revered.”

“We didn’t wake up one day and think the world needs another tequila company. For us, tequila is much more than a spirit,” adds Ryan. “It’s woven into the fabric of our history. It’s there in every important moment. Tequila represents the companionship of family and friends. It symbolizes love and laughter. Tequila is life, distilled into its purest form.”

Celaya Tequila is a premium spirit made with 100 percent Blue Agave harvested from the highland and lowland regions of Jalisco, Mexico. While most tequilas are fermented for about 12 hours, the Celaya process is slow and patient, lasting up to 60 hours. The tequila is twice distilled, the result being a perfectly smooth, small-batch tequila with sublime, layered flavors.

Celaya Tequila is being brought to market by Moontide, a marketing firm based in Los Angeles. "Today’s most successful brands tell differentiated stories that positively reflect their consumers' values,” says Tresa Gowland, managing director of the firm. “Celaya’s blending of family, tradition, heritage - mixed with pro sports - sets it apart from any other spirits brand. To top it off, the fact that Celaya tastes divine will make it a sure-fire winner."

Celaya Tequila is distributed by Park Street. The company plans for the sale of 20,000 bottles in its first year. For more information, contact Tyler Deeb, tyler@celaya-tequila.com.

Julie Fisher of fc Studio: 5 Things You Can Do To Help Your Living Space Spark More Joy

“Reduce the amount of “stuff.” I don’t think that you have to put everything behind closed doors, just be thoughtful about what you are looking at every day. I recently remodeled my kitchen and got rid of my upper cabinets. It may sound counterintuitive but exposing the items that are functional and beautiful out on display brings me so much joy. It also makes you only put out what you actually use and need!”
